Penny Graphics is a small graphic design company offering websites, design and illustration services to businesses of all types.
Who are Penny Graphics?
They are a couple of designers with thirty years experience in graphic design, illustration and marketing, based in lower Normandy with their
family.
I asked what type of graphic design did they specialise in.
We are specializing mainly in content managed web site design.
What is content managed web sites?
Content managed means that the clients can edit the site themselves. Once we have set it all up for them and designed the site they can then add or take away words and pictures themselves without coming back and paying for changes. We have found that many of our customers are really happy with this way of working because they can work on their own computer at home and update their site instantly. They will start with say five or six pages. We have seen the sites grow to as many as 15 pages, some with galleries and so on! It is really functional, plus they get a professionally designed web site that does not look amateurish.
What do you do to help and how does it work?
It is really simple, once a person who needs a site gets in touch with a brief ,we get as much information as possible from them about what they require, then we design a main layout and add the structure to the site including all the backgrounds, headers and so forth. We can even add in a stat counter and in some instances a language translator if required. We can also help with writing the initial wording. We put the site on line and then the client can have a look and check for errors. The whole site building process is very much a two-way thing initially.
Do you need any skills as it sounds complicated?
No, that is the nice thing, you need no skills as such, as we supply a really user-friendly interface and give full instructions on line on how to edit the site. We also are there for any problems, as initially some clients do come back with questions, which is natural in this type of business. We offer quite a lot of help which we feel is important as we do not want to leave our clients feeling left out in any way and we welcome feedback as that is how the site evolves. So all a person needs is a computer and access to the net and they can easily manage their site themselves at home or at the office.
How long does it take to make a site, and do you submit it to the search engines?
It depends a lot on what is involved initially and if we get all the information, for example photos, text and so on. Once we have received all that then it usually takes a day or so depending on the site design. So more often than not we can have someone's site up and on line within a few days. If required,we can time then submit the site to the search engines and link the site to other related sites and web rings.

Do you do other work?
Most of our work at the moment is web based design, as we can work in all regions via the web, though we also design company logos for many of our clients to accompany their web sites. Quite a few clients then use their logo on all their publicity and stationery and vehicle livery. We also design static web sites, brochures, stationery and so on. We have a portfolio on the site with some of our samples.
