Although the weather was bitterly cold, there was reportedly around 4000 individuals who turned up at Mortain on the last weekend in January, to protest against the proposed high tension lines which would be running through the area. For a comparatively sparsely populated area this was indeed a good turnout, showing the local strength of feeling.
