The Folk Club in Villedieu

A great night was had by all last Friday at the Samovar Bar/Restaurant in Villedieu les Poeles, when the The Folk Club gets together, there was a variety of songs and musicians. The Samovar is a bar and restaurant close to the centre of Villedieu les Poeles in lower Normandy, with a convivial atmosphere.

The owners Bernard and Natalie host the Folk club each month usually on the second Friday of each month. The bar specialises in different teas and beverages as well as meals so you can eat whilst enjoying the folk tunes of both the UK, France and beyond.

It is open to anyone with an acoustic musical instrument to come along and play, so the line up and songs vary each session, from unaccompanied vocalists singing traditional folk to french ballads played on a hurdy gurdy. So there is always something for everyone.

So if you like folk music and would like to join in or simply sit and watch you are always sure of a warm welcome.

Tour d’France update

For all those interested in the 98th Tour de France cycle race which will be passing through the area we have now been informed that the race will be passing through these villages on the 6th stage of the race on the 7th July:

St Laurent du Cuves on the D39 Rue Principal - Route du Mont Robert:
Cyclists will be passing through from 14h03 to 14h15

St Pois D39 Route St Laurent du Cuves - Route de Montjoie
Cyclists will be passing through from 14h09 to 14h21

St Michel de Montjoie D39 - Le Haut de Bourg
Cyclists will be passing through from 14h14 to 14h26

Anti nuclear campaign march in Avranches

The "Stop THT" groups within our region have organised an anti nuclear demonstration on 30th April at 14h00 in Avranches. It is hoped that there will be a big turn out in support of the anti -nuclear campaign. Especially in light of the recent events in Japan who have now upgraded the nuclear reactor problems to the same scale as Chernobyl.

Chernobyl Day

There is also another meeting on Saturday, April 23 at Dielette, 15h00. This is for the Chernobyl Day and is in memory of the Chernobyl disaster and all the Ukrainians who have suffered for 25 years.

There is currently a moratorium on the EPR and the area is awaiting a final decision from the central government.
